Rudolph (aka Rudy) is a 4 yr old gelding and one of the 9 reindeer boys that were rescued in January 2023, from a southern kill pen by WRR just prior to being loaded onto a truck bound for Mexico. Rudy was one of the untouchables when he first arrived. Extremely shy and uncomfortable around humans, it took about a year of slow and kind handling for him to come around. He is very treat motivated for training, but can get a little pushy and nippy if there is any competition for the treats. Gentle correction tends to work. He allows petting on his face and head, but limited touching elsewhere and remains cautious around people. He tends to hang out with the general herd with no particular favorite friend and gets along with everyone (unless they want his training treat). Rudolph is available for adoption to the right person that can provide continued work and training. There is cuĆrently a interest list of 2 former experienced adopters awaiting meet and grèets for Rudy in the Spring, however new inquires will be accepted thereafter if he is not adopted.

Rudolph’s Donkey Fun Fact: Donkeys don't like being in the rain for long periods and therefore adequate shelter is required. Remember, donkeys are native to the desert environments and flourish in dry climates. When wet, a donkey's fur becomes significantly more soaked than a horse's coat because donkeys lack the natural oils in their fur that make a horse's coat relatively waterproof because of their natural build-up of grease. Thus, a donkey's coat will absorb much more water and become heavier when wet, making them less suited to cold rainy weather compared to horses. Brushing a wet donkey pushes water and dirt into their skin and adversely affects their natural skin oils. Brushing and grooming your donkey should only be done when the fur is dry.
We love our donkeys and will only allow the best for them. Please note to adopt one of our available donkeys you must either have at least one other donkey on your property or be willing to adopt at least 2 from our rescue. All of our donkeys will be up to date on shots when adopted. Our male donkeys will be gelded before adoption. Other Pictures of Rudolph (click to see larger version):
